The Orsay Museum invites us to discover, from April 5 to July 3, 2011, a rare exhibition on one of the major French painters of the nineteenth century: Edouard Manet.
First manifestation of all devoted to Manet in France for the exhibition at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais in 1983, “Manet, modern inventor” tries to enlighten the public about the historical situation of Edouard Manet, between the legacy reaffirmed the romantic, the impact of his contemporaries and the media flow of his time.
Thus, around 200 paintings, drawings and photographs, the exhibition of the master Manet at the Orsay Museum in turn leads us on the teaching of Thomas Couture, the pulse of Baudelaire, the reform of religious art, the erotic imagery, the fragmented art, the report to paint women (Berthe Morisot, Eva Gonzales), the worldly temptation, impressionism its offbeat as its complicity with the darkest Mallarme …
